The current MPHS is an outgrowth of a prior group which ran from 1974 to 1977. Annual meetings began in 1981 and are rotated throughout the former Missouri Pacific system as feasible. In addition to the society's business meeting varied programs covering the history and modeling of the MoPac are given for the benefit of those in attendance. Other activities include a swap meet for those interested in collecting railroad items or purchasing model railroad products. The MPHS has a professionally published quarterly magazine (The Eagle). Each issue of "The Eagle" contains current modeling information and articles of historical interest. Rosters of equipment, technical information and modeling projects are just a few of the many items published along with business of the Society. Memberships of all classes include a subscription to "The Eagle" magazine in addition to a 12 month calendar which is published in the fall for the following year.
